Bangladesh experienced a serious natural disaster on November 15, 2007 when cyclone Sidr hit southern part of the country. it was around 7:30pm when the cyclone hit Khulna and Barisal coasts with a high tidal surge and winds of over 210 kilometers per hour. Severely affected districts include satkhira, Khulna bagerhat narail gopalgonj barguna pakuakhali, pirojpur, jhalakathi, Barisal, bhola, luxmipur, noakhali, feni, Chittagong, and cox’s bazaar. The cyclone caused extensive danger to houses, crops, school, buildings, roads, trees, and disrupted electricity, and telecommunication system. Thousands of people were confirmed dead after it had slammed into the coast. Hundreds of fishing boats caught in sidr failed to return to the shore. Experts described sidr as similar in strength to the 1991 storm that killed 138000 people. Government and other non government sources provided immediate help to the sidr victim. Many countries and donor agencies came forward to provide food and shelter for them. The devastation caused by sidr was irreplaceable. Bangladesh’s economy has suffered a lot such a calamity.
